Blue Grouse Country Inn
Traveling south from Jasper to Vancouver Highway 5 winds down mostly alongside Wells Gray Park with its entrance in the town of Clearwater. From here, Clearwater Valley Road will take you into the wilderness of Wells Gray Provincial Park where you will find a well-marked driveway to a hidden Bed & Breakfast. The Blue Grouse Country Inn is set back from the road 200 meters with nice views of mountain scenery.
The owners, Mike and Regina found this place over 20 years ago and made the cedar log cabin their home. In 2002 the Bed&Breakfast part was added, allowing each room its own entrance from a covered veranda. We serve you a full breakfast buffet either in the Blue Grouse Room or on the Sundeck. A very peaceful and quiet atmosphere will let you relax after an adventurous day in the Park and a soak in the hot tub and Sauna will sooth your muscles. Or just be at peace beside the small plunging waterfall in the rock garden and let your mind wander or watch the hummingbirds hovering at the feeders.
The area is ideal for outdoor adventures and guided activities are offered nearby. Your host can book you on any of the tours or provide you with information on the Park should you wish to explore on your own.
Popular tours are the Wells Gray Appetizer, a combination of sightseeing and canoeing. Horseback riding can be arranged with Wells Gray Ranch or flight seeing with Wells Gray Air. Popular hikes are into the alpine flower meadows or under a waterfall. Chinook and Coho Salmon are moving upstream the Clearwater River in August and their effort of jumping at Baileys Chute is another highlight of Wells Gray Park.
In Clearwater several operators offer water sport activities such as kayaking, whitewater rafting or float trips. Clearwater Lake Tours also provides a jet-boat tour for the less adventurous.
For dinners your host can inform you of the daily menus in the nearby restaurants which are spread between 2 and 9 kms distance. A delicious picnic lunch can be ordered at the Blue Grouse for your day in the Park.
We are convinced that you need a full day to explore Wells Gray Park and therefore do require a minimum stay of two nights, suggesting a third night if itinerary allows.
Regina and Mike like to share their experience of living in this park for more than 25 years while serving breakfast and are looking forward to welcome guests of all nations to their home. English and German is spoken fluently and Regina understands some French.
