Prince George, British Columbia Bed and Breakfasts

Prince George, BC, is sometimes called British Columbia’s Northern Capital. It is indeed the largest city in northern BC, and is a leader in the region’s economy and culture. It sits at the confluence of the Fraser and Nechako Rivers, where the Lheidii T’enneh First Nation (or “people of the confluence”) once lived.

The geography of Prince George BC is striking. The city is in a dish, surrounded by steep, bare mountain slopes called the Cutbanks. The Interior Plateau lies to the south, the Caribou Mountains to the southeast, and the Rocky Mountains stand in the distance in the east.

The original Fort George was a somewhat isolated trading post during much of the 1800s. It was not until the early 20th century, when the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway passed through the area, that the town really began to grow. Today, Prince George BC offers all the amenities and comforts of a big city, while being just minutes from incredible wilderness and a wide range of outdoor recreation. Get comfortable in a Prince George Bed and Breakfast, for there is much to do and see here.

There is abundant freshwater fishing within an hour of the city, many of which are stocked with rainbow trout. The Nechako River has clear water and one of the best salmon runs in British Columbia. Half a dozen golf courses are in and around Prince George. Every course benefits from the spectacular scenery of the region.

In the winter, there are a number of groomed cross-country ski trails close to town. Outside of town, there is excellent Nordic skiing at Tabor Mountain and at several nearby provincial parks: West Lake, Fort George Canyon, Eskers and Giscome. Skating and snowshoeing are also popular in this region of British Columbia.

There is a thriving arts community in Prince George. Attend the symphony, the theatre, or a dance performance while in town. The Prince George Folk Festival keeps feet tapping in the summer, while the Cold Snap Music Festival helps keep folks warm during the winter.
